Yorkville is located to the east of Lexington between 77th and 86th
Streets. The neighborhood of Yorkville is named after York Avenue, which
runs directly, down the middle of it. York is one of those unknown areas
to non-New Yorkers but is popular amoungst the locals and as such the
neighborhood demands a premium.
In the last few years the neighborhood has become popular with the
young single crowd. Restaurants and bars are cater to this crowd. As
a wide diversity of shops has moved into the area it's become more self-sufficient
as a residential community. The feel is casual and less costly than
the Upper West Side.
Residents love the coffeehouses and pubs. It's a residential and very
quiet area for sure. The famous landmark is Gracie Mansion, home of
the Mayor of New York City. The main architecture of the area is turn
of the century brownstones, with their fantastic details like wrought-iron
railings. It is considered a high-end area to live in.
