West End Avenue in this part of the neighborhood is an intersting place
of great brownstones and wonderful old apartment buildings. Many are
pre-war and currently are co-op apartments. In the beginning some of
these buildings were mansions , or large apartments with servants quarters.
Local residents here have lived in this neighborhood for most of their
lives and moving away isn't an option. The neighborhood is peaceful,
quiet and clsoe to mass transit and midtown.
One block west of West End Avenue is the fabulous Riverside Drive.
Facing the Hudson River with spectacular views of sunsets and passing
sailboats, Riverside Drive apartments have been desirable and sought
after for over a 100 years. The buildings may not be as impressive as
those on Fifth Avenue or Central Park West but the views of Riverside
Park, the Hudson River and the New Jersey skyline are so fabulous and
they are the reason why people want to live here instead of those areas.
Also, it's a quiet neighborhood compared to the rest of the city. There's
also the park that runs from the low 60s to 120th Street. It's great
for walking or meeting and talking at the many coffee shops. dog if
you want to meet The Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway with their attractions
are only one or two blocks in away.
