This style of apartment building is by far the most common throughout
Manhattan. Built in many styles and sizes from the pre-war years through
to the 1960's and 1970's. They are built usually from 3-5 stories high.
There is no elevator hence the term 'walk up'. Thet are samller in size
than the other styles of buildings but also less expensive to buy or
rent. Depending on the owner and upgrades each building is different
from the next.
Residents in this type of buildinf range from professionals, students,
to immigrants.
Average price for a 1-bedroom: $300K - $500K. Average monthly rental
for a 1-bedroom: $1,500 - $2,000. Average size of a 1-bedroom 400 -
600 sq. ft. These are found throughout the city.
Generally an easy buying procedure. No strict regulations or approvals
needed.
These buildings are a popular choice for new immigrants and those with
a limited budget.
